Scottie Scheffler explains how he punctured his hand with glass while cutting raviolis

Scottie Scheffler is making his 2025 PGA Tour debut this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, about a month after having surgery to remove shards of glass from his right hand after what was described as a dinner incident on Christmas Day.

At Pebble Beach on Tuesday, Scheffler explained how his hand was punctured by glass in the first place. Turns out, it was a cooking accident that came about by not having the right tools to do the job. The Schefflers were at a rental home, tryint to make a lovely Christmas dish.

"So when you make raviolis, we wanted to make them from scratch so you've got to roll the dough and you've got to cut the dough," Scheffler explained, "but we were at a rental house so we didn't have like the right tools and the only thing there was a wine glass that we found."

Scheffler was looking to use the wine glass, flip it over and cut out shapes from the dough to make the ravioli pieces. Then, they would put filling in them, press the dough pieces together, and voila. But that went wrong.

"I had my hand on top of it and it broke, which side note, I've heard nothing but horror stories since this happened about wine glasses, so be careful," Scheffler said.

"Even if you're like me and you don't drink wine, you've got to be real careful with wine glasses. Yeah, it broke and the stem kind of got me in the hand."

Life happens, and Scheffler certainly didn't expect it. The world No. 1 was grateful it actually wasn't worse compared to someone else who experienced a similar problem.

"You know, it could have been a lot worse. I actually talked to somebody who did the exact same thing and the stem went straight through their hand," Scheffler explained. "It's one of those deals where immediately after it happened I was mad at myself because I was like gosh, that's so stupid, but you just don't think about it when you're in the moment. Yeah, definitely been like a little more careful doing stuff at home."

The injury not only forced Scheffler to undergo surgery, but it also forced him to miss planned starts in Hawaii at The Sentry and in California at The American Express.

Rory McIlroy was joking at his news conference earlier in the day that Scheffler needed to hire a personal chef so this kind of thing doesn't happen again. That was an opportunity for Scheffler to pay his wife, Meredith, a few compliments.

"I've got a chef, her name's Meredith. She's pretty cute," Scheffler said.

As for the raviolis?

"They were good," Scheffler said. "They weren't that good, but they were pretty good."
