Scottie Scheffler will start his 2025 PGA Tour season next week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
The San Francisco Chroncile cited a tournament source who indicated Scheffler had committed to the Signature event, which features an 80-player professional field and a 36-hole pro-am across Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. The field will be playing once again for a $20 million purse.
Scheffler has been out of action since a surgery on his right hand to remove pieces of glass related to a Christmas Day cooking incident. Scheffler was said to be making raviolis when the accident happened, punturing his hand and leaving shards of glass in his hand that required an operation to remove.
At the time, Scheffler's representation suggested a recovery time of 3-4 weeks. Scheffler withdrew from the PGA Tour season opener, The Sentry in Hawaii, and had hoped to make his first start at The American Express last week in Palm Springs, Calif. However, Scheffler was not comfortable playing in the event and chose to wait until Pebble Beach to get his year started.
Scheffler had been seen in some videos on social media wearing a covering on his right hand while he worked out, suggesting has was still looking to protect his hand in the recovery process.
Wyndham Clark is defending champion of the event, which was shortened to 54 holes due to unplayable weather conditions for the scheduled final round.
It's unclear if Scheffler will resume the schedule he otherwise intended to play in 2025, before the injury changed his plans. After Pebble Beach, Scheffler would most likely play Tiger Woods' The Genesis Invitational, another Signature event whose venue has been moved for this year to Torrey Pines' South Course in San Diego in response to devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
