World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be out of action for four weeks following surgery to remove broken glass lodged in his hand after a Christmas incident.
Scheffler, who won the Hero World Challenge in his final start of 2024, withdrew from next week's The Sentry in Hawaii.
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.
"He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express," said Blake Smith, Scheffler's manager, in a statement.
Scheffler will not be replaced in The Sentry field, which is reserved for players who won on the PGA Tour in calendar 2024 and those who finished inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings in 2024.
Scheffler won the Masters, The Players, four Signature tournaments and the Tour Championship in 2024, culminating in winning the FedEx Cup and a record money haul for a single PGA Tour season. He also won the Olympic gold medal in the Paris Olympics, in addition to the Challenge event win in Tiger's event in the Bahamas.
