2013 British Open Championship: 1st & 2nd round groupings, tee times

The R&A has released the groupings and tee times for the first two rounds of the 2013 Open Championship, which begins Thursday at Muirfield Golf Club in Scotland.

Tiger Woods begins his bid for a 15th major championship with Graeme McDowell and Louis Oosthuizen at 9:45 a.m. ET. Woods has four wins this season, while McDowell has three wins in his last eight worldwide starts. He also has five missed cuts.

About five hours before at 4:11 a.m. ET, defending champion Ernie Els goes off with 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose and Brandt Snedeker. Meanwhile, Masters champion Adam Scott begins at 9:12 a.m. ET in search of personal vengeance from a year ago at Lytham, going off with Matt Kuchar and Luke Donald, arguably the two best players never to have won a major. Then again, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood could claim that title, too, and they're grouped with 2011 Masters winner Charl Schwartzel.

Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson will play together for the opening rounds. Alongside Hideki Matsuyama, they begin at 4:44 a.m. on Day 1.

Jordan Spieth, who earned a spot in the field by winning the John Deere Classic in a five-hole playoff, is grouped with Russell Henley and Matthew Fitzpatrick at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday.

There's an "old guy" group this year, with Tom Watson, Fred Couples and Nick Faldo going off together for the first two days. They have the 4 a.m. slot on Thursday.
