Scottie Scheffler will begin his 2026 season in the California desert, committing again to play in The American Express at Palm Springs.

The tournament announced Scheffler's commitment on Wednesday, along with a strong lineup of players, including defending champion Sepp Straka, Robert MacIntyre, Luke Clanton, Akshay Bhatia, Harris English, Wyndham Clark, Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler.

Typically the first PGA Tour event of the year played in the mainland United States, The American Express will be the second event on the 2026 PGA Tour schedule after the Sony Open in Hawaii. The Sentry, reserved for PGA Tour winners from the prior year and the prior season's FedEx Cup top 50, was canceled after host Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course fell into poor conditioning amidst a drought and water dispute.

Scheffler had intended to start his 2025 season at The American Express after he injured his hand in an off-season cooking incident while trying to make ravioli. Instead, he began his year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before playing the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he won his first PGA Tour title in 2022 and a successful title defense in 2023.

Scheffler has also committed to the Phoenix-area event at TPC Scottsdale, according to tournament officials.

Scheffler is the dominant world No. 1, having won six times in 20 events in 2025, including his third and fourth major championships at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in North Carolina and the British Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
