2025 Farmers Insurance Open: PGA Tour one-and-done fantasy golf picks

PGA Tour one-and-done is perhaps the best fantasy golf game, with season-long leagues that give players a chance to pick one player for each tournament in the league season.

Once again in 2025, we offer weekly PGA Tour one-and-done golf picks for leagues of all kinds, including survivor leagues where the selected player must make the cut for the entry to continue to the next tournament.

We continue our 2025 PGA Tour one-and-done picks with the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, concluding at the 2025 Tour Championship, keeping track of our picks all along the way.

Before we begin, if you're not familiar with game, read this primer on the one-and-done fantasy golf format, and welcome to the game. It really is as easy as it sounds, but you have to take a long-term view of the season to figure out how best to use players.

This week, we have the Farmers Insurance Open, with a 156-player field taking on unique challenges on a two-course rotation. The South Course is substantially tougher than the North Course, meaning players have to do their pre-cut damage on the North and hang on at the South to get to the weekend and two more rounds on the South.

Matthieu Pavon here won in a shocker last year, though this event has a tendency to produce either surprise winners or the best player in the world at that time as champion (shout out Tiger Woods).

My one-and-done recommendations fall into one of two categories: players who are in current form and those who have great course experience. This week, I won't talk about current form because almost all of these players have played once or fewer in the last month. As the season gets going, though, that current form category will be probably more important than course history.

Last week, we didn't overthink it and went with the horse-for-course play in Sungjae Im, who had an inexplicably bad first round that led to a missed cut. Sepp Straka was on the list, and that was the right play, of course.

2025 Farmers Insurance Open One and Done picks

Course history

  • Jason Day: Day fits in both categories here, but he was 3rd and 7th in 2022 and 2023, respectively, and he's coming off a great week at The AmEx.
  • Tony Finau: Finau shook off some rust at The AmEx, where he MC'd, but he's been fabulous historically at Torrey.
  • Max Homa: Homa loves this event, has had great success here. Things are improving overall, but last year was rough.
  • Will Zalatoris: Willy Z has put on some pounds and seems to be playing better with the extra tonnage, and he likes Torrey.

Current form

  • Hideki Matsuyama: Hideki fits both categories, but the stronger thing is The Sentry win.
  • Keegan Bradley: Great run at the Sony and a solid week at Kapalua leads to a recommendation here.
  • Eric Cole: Cole may have hit the wall a little bit, but he still powered through to make the AmEx cut.
  • Harry Hall: Hall has been a top-15 machine for months, and he's continuing his great form.

My pick this week is Tony Finau.
