David Feherty joins NBC and Golf Channel full time after leaving CBS

David Feherty has a new home, sort of.

NBC Sports Group announced Tuesday that it has come to an agreement with Feherty to expand his role at Golf Channel and NBC, including golf broadcasts on the two networks. The news comes two weeks after contract extension talks broke down between CBS and Feherty, which, according to multiple reports, snagged on the Irish-born former golf pro's role with the network moving forward. Feherty had been with CBS since 1997.

Feherty will have a similar role during NBC and Golf Channel telecasts of PGA Tour events, serving as a walking and tower analyst. Somewhat vaguely, Golf Channel said Feherty will also be "featured" during coverage of the Ryder Cup, Olympics and some PGA of America and European Tour events. He will be on the call for NBC and Golf Channel's coverage of the Open Championship, which starts in 2017.

"I'm really looking forward to this next step in my career, but I'll miss a lot of people who have had my back for nearly 20 years. And to be honest, I'm on the verge of soiling myself," said Feherty in a release. "However, I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities at NBC and Golf Channel. I haven't yet heard the over-under on me getting fired, but hey, I beat the odds last time."

Feherty's eponymous talk show will continue to air on Golf Channel, as it has since 2012. Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal, has a first-look development deal for potential Feherty-driven entertainment projects.
