Not many golfers can claim an ace in their lives. Even fewer can claim one on a par 4. Englishman Paul Waring joined that company, however, on Wednesday.
Waring was playing alongside fellow countryman Danny Willett at Kingsbarns in Scotland in preparation for this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the European Tour pro-am equivalent of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. On the 338-yard, par-4 sixth, Waring hit a tee shot he knew was good. He saw the ball roll onto the green, but nothing else. Then when he got to the green, he realized the ball had gone in for the par-4 ace.
"I should have saved it for the competitive round," said Waring.
Waring's best finish this season on the European Tour is a T-8 finish at the Trophee Hassan II. More recently, the 29-year-old Englishman finished T-11 at the KLM Open.
