You've seen the craziness that is the par 3 at Legends Golf and Safari Resort in South Africa. But a par 3 in New Zealand rivals, if not surpasses it in terms of difficulty and extreme access.
In a collaboration between Over the Top Helicopters and Eric Faesenkloet, owner of New Zealand's Golf Warehouse, a 311-yard par 3 has been created atop Cecil Peak, located 4,500 feet above sea level in the Southern Alps on South Island, overlooking Queenstown.
The hole drops some 1,476 feet -- an even longer drop than the already daunting hole in South Africa -- to a green made of artificial turf. All 40 tons of material to build the green could not be delivered up the mountain by truck and had to be brought in by helicopter, the same way players are flown up to their choice of three extreme tee boxes. Each is perched on boulders situated on the mountain, grazing place for famous New Zealand sheep.
