Report: Johnny Miller’s Silverado Resort to host ’14 Frys.com Open

The Frys.com Open will have a new home in 2014: Johnny Miller's place.

Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., will host the season opener in 2014, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report. The resort will reportedly host the tournament for 2-3 years.

CordeValle Resort in San Martin has hosted the tournament since 2010. The USGA announced last week that CordeValle would host the 2016 U.S. Women's Open.

While the swap of venues will give CordeValle ample time to prepare to host the first U.S. Women's Open in the Bay Area, a change had been rumored for years. However, it was rumored the Fry-owned The Institute would take over as host of the tournament the electronics-selling family owns. That is still in the plans, but a delay in constructing the course's clubhouse will prevent a move there until at least 2016.

Meanwhile, the ownership group that bought Silverado in 2010, including Miller, were eager to get their resort back in the pro-golf spotlight. Miller immediately began renovating the North Course of the resort with the intent of bringing some kind of high-level event to it again. It hosted the PGA Tour from 1968-80 and the Champions Tour from 1989-2002.
