Guan Tianlang accepts sponsor’s invitation to FedEx St. Jude Memphis Classic

Guan Tianlang, the 14-year-old Chinese phenom, has accepted a sponsor's invitation to play in next month's FedEx St. Jude Memphis Classic at TPC Southwind.

"Guan's invitation was a no-brainer," said tournament director Phil Cannon in a statement. “He certainly has made a big splash in the sports world. And we are excited our fans will get to witness history. It's remarkable that he did not have a three-putt green in 72 holes at Augusta."

This will mark the fifth PGA Tour start of the year for the teen. He became the youngest player ever to make the cut at the Masters in April, then made the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans two weeks later. He shot 70-77 to miss the cut last week at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Tianlang will play the week prior to Memphis in Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament. However, Tianlang has pulled out of qualifying for the U.S. Open.

As a non-member of the PGA Tour, Tianlang is allowed to accept up to seven sponsor's invitations each year. Memphis will mark his fourth.
