Australian Connor McKinney has shot the first 59 in the history of the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, breaking 60 in the second round of the Gippsland Super 6.
The 22-year-old went out in 33 on the par-70 Warragul Country Club in the second round of the unique event, and then he came in with an inward 9-under 26 to break 60.
McKinney came to the 18th hole, a 340-yard par 4, needing an eagle to break 60. He hit a perfect drive to 12 feet and then made the eagle putt to lock up 59.
"To match it all together today and finish like I did, yeah, I'm pretty stoked with that," McKinney said.
McKinney became the first player in nearly 20 years to break 60 in an Australian professional golf event. Brad McIntosh was the first to do so on the Von Nida Tour at the Queensland PGA Championship at Emerald Lakes in 2005.
McKinney shot 1-under 69 in the first round, so his second round took him to 12 under, five off the lead of Ben Henkel, who himself shot a 9-under 61 to get to 17-under 123.
Tim Hart and Corey Lamb were tied for second, three shots back of Henkel at 14 under.
