Every year, millions tune into The Players Championship and hear the familiar pomp-and-circumstance theme song that instantly connects fans to the PGA Tour's crown jewel. It's a great theme. But what is it?

The Players Championship has a new theme song, starting in 2019, but we can still appreciate the decades-long classic song.

GNN friend and podcaster Jeremy Schilling did some investigating and learned The Players Championship theme song is two songs from the soundtrack to a movie called called “The Man from Snowy River."

The song which kicks off The Players Championship is just simply called “Main Theme.”

The other song, which sounds similar is "Mountain Theme."

"The Man From Snowy River" was released in 1982, and the movie is set in Australia in the 1880s. From IMDB:

Jim Craig has lived his first 18 years in the mountains of Australia on his father's farm. The death of his father forces him to go to the low lands to earn enough money to get the farm back on its feet. Kirk Douglas plays two roles as twin brothers who haven't spoken for years, one of whom was Jim's father's best friend and the other of whom is the father of the girl he wants to marry. A 20 year old feud re-erupts, catching Jim and Jessica in the middle of it as Jim is accused of letting a prize stallion loose.
