After several decades, The Players Championship has a new theme song.
With the PGA Tour's crown jewel -- now dubbed the "Gold Standard" -- moving back to March after more than a decade in May, the team in Ponte Vedra Beach are again actively trying to elevate the championship further toward major status. Part of that comes with a new theme song, created by Joel Beckerman and the team at Man Made Music.
The theme, which the PGA Tour announced before the championship, has already been used for months in advertising promoting the event. We just didn't know it yet.
Is that ... THE PLAYERS music?

It's catchy, and it's pretty modern sounding, despite the orchestral nature of it.
For years, the PGA Tour used two songs from the soundtrack to a movie called called “The Man from Snowy River."
The song which kicked off The Players Championship is just simply called “Main Theme.” The other song, which sounds similar is "Mountain Theme."
The other big part of elevating The Players comes with a massive bump in The Players Championship purse to $12.5 million, the richest on the PGA Tour.
The Tour has also created a new Players Championship trophy, moving on from the classic Waterford crystal to a 3-D rendered gold trophy.
