Primer: Wyndham Championship 2012 – Last chance to qualify for FedEx Cup Playoffs

The Wyndham Championship marks the PGA Tour's final regular-season event and the last chance for many players to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Only the top 125 players on the FedEx Cup Rankings will move on to The Barclays next week, which means  names like Brendan Steele (tied for No. 126 in points), Retief Goosen (also 126th) and Y.E. Yang (129th) will need to finish strong at the Wyndham to earn a playoff berth.

Rod Pampling is the "bubble boy," coming into the week at No. 125 ahead of Steele and Goosen. Pampling's spot is anything but safe, however, as a mere 26 points separate him from his closest trailing peers.

In addition to a $936,000 share of a $5.2 million purse, this week's winner will also receive 500 FedEx Cup points.

Someone who could use the 500 points is Tour veteran John Daly, who has put himself into an unfamiliar position. Thanks to strong finishes at the Reno-Tahoe Open (T-5) and last week's PGA Championship (T-18), Daly is now in position to earn a postseason berth for the first time in his career. Daly currently sits in 137th place in the rankings, only 12 places outside and 58 points outside the top 125.
