Finish Trends

Recent PGA Tour Trends

We start by looking at the recent past, back at players who have finished inside the top 15 in the last five individual PGA Tour events.

  • Mackenzie Hughes – 3 – T-13 Northern Trust, T-10 BMw Championship, T-14 Tour Championship/li>

Event Finish History

We like to look for potential horses for courses with most PGA Tour events, particularly those with regular host courses. However, this is Year 2 for the event, so we don’t have that. Here’s last year’s top 15:

1. Graeme McDowell
T2. Mackenzie Hughes
T2. Chris Stroud
4. Jonathan Byrd
T5. Chip McDaniel
T5. Kelly Kraft
T7. George McNeill
T7. Aaron Baddeley
T7. Sungjae Im
T10. D.J. Trahan
T10. Kramer Hickok
T12. Sam Burns
T12. Joel Dahmen
T12. Grayson Murray
T12. Benjamin Silverman
T12. Brady Schnell
T12. Paul Dunne

Course Fits

It seems to me the best way to use Strokes Gained data is to give a sense of a course fit. My working theory is a player is a course fit — or a potential course fit, at least — if their Strokes Gained breakout when they finish in the top 25 is similar to the average for top-25 finishers at this week’s event.

The model can’t be done this week as this is a PGA Tour event where Shotlink is not used.

2020 Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship DraftKings recommendations

$10,000 and up

We have four players in this group, and I think they’re all overpriced, but Mac Hughes and Will Zalatoris can be justified.

$8,000-$9,999

We have 20 players in this group, and this is where we want to make a lineup. Detry, Ventura, Denny McCarthy, CH3, Pat Perez, Henrik Norlander, Brian Stuard are guys I like here.

$7,001-$7,999

DraftKings typically breaks the rest of the field in half at the $7,000 mark. We are really starting to fish below $8,000 this week. Mitchell, Will Gordon, Matt NeSmith, Cameron Percy and Kevin Chappell are guys I like. Kurt Kitayama could be a good pick.

Below or at $7,000

We’re looking for bargains in this range, and we have a lot of the field in this range. I really don’t see any. Like none. I would avoid this range entirely if possible.

My Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship DraftKings GPP lineup

  1. Denny McCarthy – $9,600
  2. Henrik Norlander – $8,600
  3. Brian Stuard – $8,300
  4. Keith Mitchell – $7,600
  5. Will Gordon – $7,600
  6. Matt NeSmith – $7,400
