The 2019 PNC Father-Son Challenge final leaderboard is headed by winners Bernhard Langer and Jason Donald Langer, who prevailed on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
The Langers wound up tied with the Lehmans and the Goosens after the 36-hole scramble, making a birdie on the final hole of regulation to tie on 24-under 120.
On the first playoff hole, the Langers used Bernhard's drive, and then Jason took over. He hit a 3-wood from 270 yards to about 10 feet on the par-5 finishing hole. He then made the eagle putt to secure the title and win the event.
"He hit an unbelievable 3-wood in regulation and it came just a couple yards short, then hit an even better one in the playoff," said Bernhard. "270 into the wind and he flew it all the way there. Something I do not know how to do, I don’t have that in me so it was fun for me to watch. The noise the ball made when he struck it, was spectacular. The other teams were right there and we had our work cut out. He hit two perfect shots. Under the circumstances was exceptional."
David and Brady Duval finished alone in fourth place in the 20-team event, three shots out of the playoff.
The Langers won the $200,000 winner's share of the $1,085,000 purse.
PNC Father-Son Challenge recap notes
The PNC Father-Son Challenge has become an event for more than just fathers and sons. There are legends and their grandchildren. Jerry Pate played with his daughter. Annika Sorenstam became the first female pro to compete in the event, joining with her dad.
This is considered an unofficial event on the PGA Tour Champions schedule.
Bernhard Langer won this event for the fourth time, and he is only one win behind the all-time tally in the event. Raymond Floyd won it five times. However, Langer has now won with two different sons.
