Thorbjorn Olesen has been suspended from the European Tour until his trial for sexual assault charges and other charges related to behavior on a transatlantic flight.

TV 2 Sport in Denmark obtained a statement from the European Tour confirming the suspension pending the outcome of the trial. The European Tour will not comment further until the trial occurs on Aug. 21, per the BBC.

Thorbjorn Olesen was arrested July 29 after his flight from Nashville to London's Heathrow airport landed. He is accused of several lewd acts during the flight, including sexually assaulting a female passenger, urinating in the aisle and cursing out passengers and flight staff. The flight left Nashville Sunday night, bound for England after Olesen competed in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

A spokesperson for the London Metropolitan Police told Golf News Net, "On Monday, 29 July, officers based at Heathrow Airport arrested a 29 year-old man on an in-bound flight on suspicion of sexual assault, being drunk on board an aircraft and failing to comply with the orders of cabin crew. He was taken into custody and subsequently released under investigation."

Ian Poulter was flying with Olesen and, according to The Sun, tried to calm down his Ryder Cup teammate before falling asleep for the duration of the flight, unaware of what else had transpired.

Olesen, who is not a member of the PGA Tour, would not be subject to sanction from them. He has not made public comment on the charges against him or explained his behavior on the flight.

Olesen was billed as a marquee player in next week's Scandinavian Invitational on the European Tour.
