Ping ups its MOI game with the Sigma 2 Valor 400 putter

Most golfers need better stability in their putter. They just do. We all miss the center of the face, and that leaves our putters prone to twisting and turning that will leave our putts offline and (almost always) short of the target.

With a higher-MOI (moment of inertia) putter, we're simply more likely to keep those bad putts online or at least closer to the intended line. Ping has been particularly driven by MOI gains in recent years, and they've just introduced their highest-MOI putter in their Sigma 2 series. Dubbed the Valor 400, this mallet has a 400-gram head that's counter-balance with a 15-inch grip with 50 grams added to the butt end of the 38-inch shaft. (The 400 in the name is for the weight of the head.)

The Valor 400 shares all the same alignment aids, profile and finish as the Sigma 2 Valor, but it's 35 grams heavier. The end result is a 12 percent increase in MOI, perfect for golfers with a slower tempo to their putting stroke.

The same PEBAX face material found across the Sigma 2 series carries through here, with a softer front layer on those shorter putts and a firmer back layer for distance control on mid-range and longer putts. The Ping-patented TR face pattern also helps with distance control laterally across the putter face.
