Orlando’s Reunion Resort has a new owner. Atlanta-based Kingwood International Resorts has purchased the property from Salamander Hotels and Resorts and announced plans for expansion across the property, which is home to 54 holes of golf.
“Reunion Resort is a perfect complement to our portfolio of upscale golf communities and resorts,” says Richard Nasser, president of the Kingwood’s resort division. “With its varied accommodation options, world-class golf and exceptional amenities, Reunion is known as an ideal resort for guests who want to experience everything Orlando has to offer.”
Kingwood has big plans for the AAA four-star-rated resort, including an expansion of available accommodations and a new meeting space. A new 400-room hotel with convention space and meeting facilities will be built in addition to 1,200 new rental accommodations. This is on top of the existing 360 accommodations ranging from condos and villas to vacation homes, as well the current 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The property has seven casual and fine-dining restaurants, a full-service spa, 10 community pools and a water park. A new wave pool is expected to be among the investments.
All of this is potentially great news for golfers who come to Orlando for vacation. Reunion has three golf courses, and it is the only property in the world to have golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson.
From personal experience on a buddy trip centered around Reunion, the golf courses are among the best available to the public in Florida and provide a good test for players of all abilities.
Among other properties, Kingwood International currently owns and operates Kingwood Country Club and Golf Resort and Achasta Golf Resort community in north Georgia.
