Titleist introduces limited-edition 718 AP2 and AP3 irons in black finish

It's all the rage in golf: offering a unique finish to an existing iron set in an off-release year. Titleist has gotten in on the act with limited-edition black editions of the 718 AP2 and 718 AP3 irons.

The sets will come with a high-polish black PVD coating on the heads, while the stock True Temper AMT Onyx shafts come with a powder-coat matte black finish to minimize glare. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip is black, too.

The finish on the dubbed AP3 Black and AP2 Black irons will wear similarly to the Jet Black coating on SM7 wedges, which were an inspiration for this series.

"One request we heard from both tour players and amateurs, particularly those who have gravitated toward our Jet Black Vokey SM7 wedges, was if they could have these same irons in a darker finish," said Josh Talge, Vice President, Golf Club Marketing.

The 718 AP3s, which are the company's player's distance iron, come in 4-iron through pitching wedge with a 48-degree wedge. The AP2 irons are Titleist's most popular tour iron, mixing forgiveness with a smaller window for distance on each club. The black 718 AP2s will come in 4-iron through pitching wedge, with a 50-degree wedge.

The Titleist 718 AP2 and AP3 black irons are available March 1 for $187.50 per club, or $1,500 for an eight-iron set.
