Cleveland Golf went into design of their flagship RTX 4 wedges with some freedom in hand.
The company had already developed and introduced their CBX wedges, which are targeted at regular golfers who struggle from the sand, deeper rough and generally don't score well around the greens. That meant the Cleveland team could rally around a new iteration of RTX putting the needs of Tour players first.
The end product, the Cleveland RTX 4 wedges, pushes forward the technology found in this line while offering a more compact shape and less offset.
Rotex Face Technology returns for a fourth generation -- hence, RTX 4 -- with the combo of sharper Tour Zip grooves and improved precision in laser milling, furthering technology which has created miniature grooves and friction points between the grooves and outside the groove lines to generate more spin and control.
The RTX 4 line features four new sole grinds, offering different benefits to players of all kinds in a wide breadth of course conditions.
- Full -- This traditional mid-bounce grind is ideal for full-shot performance and pitch shots. It's available in wedges with 56-60 degrees of loft.
- Mid -- A V-shaped sole gets through the turf while trailing-edge relief bounce helps keep the head in proper position on open-faced shots. It's available in wedges with 46-60 degrees of loft.
- Low -- The C-shape grind provides heel and toe relief for versatility. It's available in wedges with 56-64 degrees of loft.
- Xlow -- The Xlow grind is the lowest bounce offering, designed to provide the proper conditions to perform from tight lies and flop-style shots. The grind is available in 58 and 60 degree lofts.
The Cleveland Golf RTX 4 wedges come in three finishes, including the Tour Satin, Tour Raw and Black Satin, and they come with the Dynamic Gold wedge shaft for $140 per shaft. The line is available Sept. 14, 2018.
