WATCH: Fan shoots video at he gets hit by Tiger Woods’ ball at the British Open

Tiger Woods was in control of the 2018 British Open Championship late on Sunday afternoon when he hit a poor tee shot with an iron to the par-4 11th hole at Carnoustie Golf Links. He tried to muscle an iron through the tall, wispy grass and get his ball on the green in two. It didn't go so well.

The grass snagged his club, and the ball shot well left of his target. It wound up hitting a fan on his shoulder before hitting a fan's phone, which dropped to the ground, before rolling closer to the green but in some sea grass.

Woods wound wind up making a crushing double-bogey 6 on the 11th, ultimately the difference between finishing in second alone and finishing in a tie for sixth place, behind winner and Sunday playing partner Francesco Molinari.

At the time, lots of fans were probably grateful for Colin Hauck, a 34-year-old from Annapolis, Md., whose phone was struck on the ricochet off the shoulder of Englishman Wayne Patridge (per ESPN), for Tiger Woods' ball not winding up in a potentially worse spot. Fortunately for us, Hauck was filming as Woods' ball hit his phone and dropped it to the ground. His phone survived, and he uploaded the footage to Twitter.

For his efforts, Hauck got a signed glove from Tiger Woods. Not a bad souvenir for a great trip from Maryland all the way to Scotland.
