Shot tracer is live at the 2018 Masters: Which holes show shot trails?

For the first time in Masters history in 2018, the United States broadcast of the Masters Tournament will have shot tracer technology -- better known as Toptracer or its former name Protracer -- on multiple holes.

The shot tracer technology was on the Masters digital streams in 2017, and lots of fans were happy to see its debut. However, they wanted that same technology shown throughout the course and on the live broadcast rather than solely on the Amen Corner Live and Holes 15 and 16 streams. The Augusta National folks listened, and shot tracer is here.

Shot tracer isn't available on every hole at Augusta National, despite CBS choosing to have Toptracer available on every hole on their PGA Tour broadcasts in 2018. For the 2018 Masters, shot tracer is available on hole Nos. 9, 10, 13, 15 and 18 -- frankly, some of the most important holes on the course.

“We’re trying to blend in the technology with our traditional coverage,” CBS chairman Sean McManus said during a pre-tournament conference call. “We’ve had good success with this on our digital platforms, and we think the time is right to introduce it into our regular coverage on Saturday and Sunday.”
