For the first time in Masters history, TrackMan will be tracing drives and golf shots at Augusta National Golf Club.
During the broadcasts of the 2017 Masters, fans will be able to see shot trails, ball speed and apex height as players try to win the green jacket. The technology will also allow fans to see the ball travel through the air in an overhead simulated flyover view of the hole.
TrackMan or TopTracer technology has become an integral part of week-to-week professional golf telecasts, showing a trail of drives and other shots as they're hit on the PGA Tour. That technology has become a part of major championship coverage at a slower pace, with ESPN integrating it into their British Open coverage before NBC took over, then Fox Sports expanding its use in their first year of U.S. Open coverage in 2015. Now, TrackMan, which CBS uses in their telecasts to show shot trails, is at the Masters.
If you use the Masters app, you're also able to see shot trails on the Masters driving range, thanks to TrackMan placed on the tournament range.
