Sergio Garcia, wife Angela Akins welcome daughter with awesome Masters-themed name

Sergio Garcia and his wife, former Golf Channel reporter and collegiate standout Angela Akins Garcia, welcomed their first child into the world in the early hours of March 14 at a Texas hospital.

Earlier in the day, Garcia hopped on a media teleconference for the Masters, not too long after Akins Garcia's water broke. Approximately 16 hours later, the Garcias welcomed their daughter. As you might imagine, the Garcias named their daughter after the most important moment in Sergio Garcia's professional golf career, when he won the 2017 Masters for his first major championship (at a place he said as late as 2009 that he didn't much like).

Sergio Garcia and Angela Akins Garcia named their daughter, Azalea.

There are azaleas aplenty at Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters, of course. But the par-5 13th hole is also named Azalea, as each hole at Augusta National is named after a flowering plant found on the property in its prior life as a nursery. On the 13th hole in the final round, Garcia's tee shot wound up left of the creek running up the left side, landing in pine straw. From there, Garcia managed to get out and salvage a par that would set up an incredible final five holes where he would land in a playoff with Justin Rose.

Congratulations to the Garcias on their beautiful daughter. Our only question is: If they had a son instead, would his name have been Firethorn (No. 15, where Garcia made a final-round eagle)?!
