Sergio Garcia takes part in Masters teleconference as pregnant wife’s water broke

Sergio Garcia hopped on a pre-Masters media teleconference on March 13 -- a typical duty for the defending champion of any significant pro golf tournament, much less the most famous golf tournament in the world.

However, the fact that Garcia even made the call is remarkable. Why? He's with his wife, Angela Akins Garcia, at the hospital, and her water just broke.

Garcia finished fourth at last week's 2018 Valspar Championship, and then shared he wouldn't return until the couple's first child would be born. So, the baby was close. But El Nino's nino is ready to go now. More often than not, a water breaking doesn't necessarily indicate birth is imminent in minutes. It's more like hours. Maybe a lot of hours. So, to that end, Garcia wasn't being anything near a bad husband to take the teleconference.

And Angela Akins Garcia certainly understands the role of media in golf. She previously worked for Golf Channel as a reporter when she met her now husband, and she co-hosts a talk show on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio with David Leadbetter's daughter, Haley.

Perhaps, then, this whole thing was divine intervention.
