Charley Hoffman did some real good for his native Las Vegas at the 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Coming into the week, Hoffman said he would donate all of his earnings from the Vegas PGA Tour stop at TPC Summerlin to help victims of the Mandalay Bay massacre on Oct. 1. With a $6.8 million purse, Hoffman would have donated $1,224,000 had he won. However, the UNLV product finished T-18, which is still a great week. For his efforts, he earned $98,600, which will be donated.

"I'm lucky that the Shriners Hospital and PGA Tour gave me the platform to help donate and help people here in the city of Las Vegas," Hoffman said Sunday. "I've called Las Vegas home for 20 years."

That tally is on top of the money Hoffman will raised in a Monday pro-am after the tournament and proceeds from an auction for a pair of Vegas Strong shoes Hoffman wore during this week's tournament.

Hoffman, coming off his Presidents Cup debut that finished the day of the shooting, heard from a lot of victims and those who had first- and second-hand accounts of Steven Paddock's shooting that killed 58 and injured another 570 people.

"Lot of pride, lot of friends out here in Las Vegas, a lot of people obviously grieving," Hoffman said. "With the stories I've heard this week, there are a lot of people hurting in this city. Just hope to be able to give back hopefully a decent check here and hopefully do some good."
