Patrick Reed promised a belly flop in a lake if Jordan Spieth holed a shot; Spieth just missed

Things are getting out of hand at the 2017 Presidents Cup. With the United States entering Saturday with a 8-2 edge over the Internationals, Steve Stricker's squad could conceivably win the Cup without needing the singles slate on Sunday.

The lead U.S. duo of Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth set the tone in the first of four alternate-shot matches on Saturday morning, pasting Jason Day and Marc Leishman by a 4-and-3 count. On the 15th and final hole of the match, Reed wanted to -- we guess -- motivate Spieth to hole his approach shot on the short par 4. Reed told Spieth he would do a belly flop in the lake on the hole if Spieth holed out the second shot.

Spieth almost did it!

Fortunately, Spieth missed it on purpose (we can only assume) but did enough so the Americans could close out the match and take a 9-2 edge early on Saturday. Besides, we all know Reed's belly would turn red, white and blue the second it hit the water.

In three matches so far at Liberty National, Spieth and Reed are 2-0-1, and they're a lipout on No. 18 on Friday away from going 3-0-0.
