Brandt Snedeker is out of the FedEx Cup playoffs and the remainder of the 2016-17 PGA Tour season as he tries to heal a sternum injury which has bothered him for weeks.

Snedeker withdrew from the Wyndham Championship, the final PGA Tour regular season event, citing the injury and chose to extend his time on the disabled list through the playoffs.

He released a statement on Twitter saying:

I would first like to thank everyone for their well wishes over the last few weeks, it has meant a lot to me. Unfortuantely, I have not progressed in my rehab like we would have hoped and therefore will be shutting it down for an indefinite period of time until I get back to 100 percent healthy. My sternum joint has become unstable and does not allow me to hit a golf ball without pain. My medical team and I are looking into every option to get me back to playing as soon as possible. It pains me not to be out there on tour competing, but at this time, my health needs to be my priority. Thanks again for all the support and I look forward to getting back on tour as soon as possible.

All the best,
Brandt

Snedeker won the FedEx Cup in 2012 and last won on the PGA Tour at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open. He was 57th in FedEx Cup points entering the week. He will not be replaced in The Northern Trust, the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events, as only the top 125 players in regular season points get into that field.
