Titleist is starting the process of seeding prototype versions of their 2018 hybrids at the 2017 John Deere Classic and Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, just ahead of the third major of the year.
The big news is the arrival of prototype (until they're not) versions of the 818 hybrids, with the H1 and H2 versions available for range testing and to hit the bag. As is custom, the H1 hybrid looks more like a fairway wood, while the H2 version is more iron-looking in its nature, with a smaller profile.
The Active Recoil Channel returns, of course, while there appears to be SureFit center of gravity adjustability making its way into the hybrids. That would be ideal for players who prefer to use hybrids as a long-iron replacement because they can't get the proper height and for players who like to keep the ball relatively low but want the ease of hitting a hybrid from all lies.
The company isn't offering many more details on the new irons at this point, waiting until later in the year once they reach final versions of the products. Seeding will continue on global tours in the coming weeks.
