Rory McIlroy has added the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Travelers Championship to his 2017 schedule, as he fills out more of his docket following his planned return at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

McIlroy has played in the Arnold Palmer Invitational each of the last two seasons, finishing T-11 in 2015 and T-27 in 2016. This year's event at Bay Hill in Orlando will be the first since the passing of Arnold Palmer in September 2016, with a group of five people combining to host the event.

The four-time major winner has not previously played in the Travelers Championship, back in its June post-U.S. Open date after a year where it was moved to the week before the men's Olympic golf tournament. Under new PGA Tour rules, players with less than 20 wins (meaning, those not holding lifetime membership) have to add a new event to their schedule that they haven't played in the prior four seasons. After narrowing down the list late in 2016 to some potential choices, McIlroy settled on the Hartford, Conn.-area tournament. The host, TPC River Highlands, is where Jim Furyk shot the first ever 58 in PGA Tour history.
