The R&A has set its future British Open Championship venues now through 2021, with Royal St. George's set to host the 2020 Open Championship and the Old Course at St. Andrews tipped to again host in 2021 to coincide with the 150th edition of the Open Championship, according to multiple overseas reports.
Until this decision, the R&A had sketched out future British Open hosts through 2019, with Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland getting a second chance to host golf's oldest major championship as the only club outside of England and Scotland to host the Open.
Royal St. George's last held the Open in 2011, when Darren Clarke broke through for his first and only major championship victory.
The Old Course typically hosts the Open every five years. However, with the 150th Open falling in 2021, it makes sense for the Home of Golf to shift off its typical five-and-zero hosting years.
