The LPGA is adding a new event to its schedule in 2017 by partnering with the Ladies European Tour. The two tours announced that they will be co-sanctioning the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open in 2017.

The move will give LPGA players access to back-to-back weeks in the Scotland next season, with the Ladies Scottish Open played July 27-30 at Dundonald Links, followed by the Ricoh Women's British Open at Kingsbarns in St. Andrews the following week.

Dundonald, which will also host the AAM Scottish Open two weeks prior, will welcome a 156-player field vying for a $1.5 million purse in a 72-hole event. It will mark the first time that the Ladies Scottish Open and the Scottish Open will be held at the same venue within a three-week period.

The 2017 LPGA Tour schedule isn't finalized yet, with other outstanding items including clarifying dates for tournaments competing for the same slots on the calendar. However, this move could give way to greater co-operation between the LPGA and LET, which has struggled to produce a consistent schedule, particularly in Europe, in recent years. The struggles have given way to rumors about and calls for the LPGA and commissioner Mike Whan stepping in to help.

For his part, Whan didn't shoot down such talk, telling Global Golf Post that he could help put together a 20-event schedule with purses in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.
