A dozen European Tour players were issued a challenge ahead of the Open de Espana: In teams of four, could they beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest time ever to play a par 5?
At host Valderrama in Spain, three teams -- one from Spain, another from France and another from Denmark -- took on a 500-yard par 5 in an attempt to break the previous world record of 68 seconds.
Sergio Garcia, this week's tournament host, was joined by Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Pablo Larrazábal and Nacho Elvira. Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin was joined on his team by Alex Levy, Gregory Havret and Romain Wattel. Thorbjorn Olesen was the Danish captain, playing alongside Lucas Bjerregaard, Morten Ørum Madsen and Lasse Jensen.
The French team went first and came out of the gates hot, with Romain Wattel blasting a drive down into the fairway. Alex Levy striped his second shot onto the green, with Jacquelin and Havret completing the two-putt birdie in 34.8 seconds.

The Danes went second and make a dramatic up-and-down from a greenside bunker to birdie the hole in 49 seconds.
The Spaniards didn't break the previous record, in part, because Sergio Garcia's second shot found the greenside water hazard.
The teams all had the use of a cart to transport players from where they hit their initial shots in the event -- like for the Spanish -- that they needed to hit an additional shot. As well, each player was positioned to hit their assigned first shot so they didn't have to all start from the tee box. Nonetheless, making a team birdie 4 in under 35 seconds is unbelievable!
