Los Angeles PGA Tour Champions event to Sherwood Country Club

The first of a new three-event playoff series on PGA Tour Champions will be played just outside of Los Angeles at Sherwood Country Club.

The tour announced Thursday the $2 million PowerShares QQQ Championship will be played Oct. 28-30. The Thousand Oaks club will also host the event in 2017 and '18.

The club, which will reopen in March after a $10 million restoration by original course designer Jack Nicklaus, is named after the forest in "Robin Hood" as the Douglas Fairbanks-led 1922 silent film was shot on the property.

Following the PowerShares QQQ Championship, its field of 72 players will whittle down to 54 for the Dominion Charity Classic, to be played the next week in Richmond, Va. The Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the final event in the series and season, will have a 30-player field in Scottsdale, Ariz.
