The 2016 Symetra Tour will offer more money than ever.
On the heels of the life insurance firm signing a six-year extension to serve as title sponsor of the LPGA's developmental tour, the season-long purse will eclipse $4 million, marking a $1.2 million increase over the 2015 schedule. The 2013 total Symetra Tour purse was $1.62 million.
That hike is largely thanks to Symetra, which agreed to a purse subsidy program, meaning it would match purse increases put forward by individual tournaments. The 2016 Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic, played May 5-8 in Greenwood, S.C., will have the largest single-event purse in the tour's history, bumping the prize pool from $200,000 to $250,000. The winner will earn $37,500. the largest payout in tour history and push the year-long total purse to nearly $4 million.
Symetra took over the naming rights of the tour, which has been the LPGA's official developmental tour since 1999, in November 2011.
