The Wanamaker trophy is probably the heaviest trophy in golf, coming in at an estimated 25 lbs.
Davis Love III, the 1997 champion at Winged Foot, marveled in 2015 at its weight.
"Surprisingly heavy," Love said, later adding, "It's one of those you have to think about it when you pick it up and hold it up and kiss it. It's very large."
In 2014 at Valhalla, then PGA of America president Ted Bishop lost control of the heavy Wanamaker as he was presenting it to champion Rory McIlroy. The top fell off in the transfer.
It's also a trophy the PGA can't let bake in the sun. When Jack Nicklaus won at Dallas Athletic Club in 1963, officials had let the trophy sit out in the scorching heat, forcing Nicklaus to pick up the trophy with a towel and skip the traditional kiss.
The PGA Championship winner gets to keep the Wanamaker for a year, but it wasn't always that way. In the past, a winner had to hand the real trophy back to the PGA and take home a smaller replica. Starting with Padraig Harrington after his 2008 win at Oakland Hills, the winner now gets a 90-percent replica of the biggest trophy in the sport after their year as champion has run out.
The Wanamaker can hold a lot of beers, but it's unclear how many the replica can hold. While metal cups may be all the rage now, that's an awfully heavy way to transport liquids.
