Kyle Thompson wins Rex Hospital Open to save pro golf career

In December 2014, Kyle Thompson was waffling on whether or not to continue his pro golf career. The now 36-year-old had made just shy of $45,000 last season on the Tour and finished 97th on the Tour's money list. After some soul searching, Thompson decided 2015 was a do-or-die-year.

That decision paid off on Sunday.

In just his second Tour start of the year, Thompson birdied the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to beat Miguel Angel Carballo and Patton Kizzire, picking up his fourth Tour win and his third in the Rex Hospital Open.

All three players tied at 17-under 267, with Carballo (64) making three birdies in the final four holes to secure his spot, while Thompson (67) and Kizzire (66) each playing the last four in 1 under par. In the playoff, all three players made par on the 440-yard, par-4 18th. They replayed the same hole to continue overtime, with Thompson outlasting his competition.

Thompson, who missed the cut at the BMW Charity Pro-Am in his only other Tour start of the year, earns $112,500 with the win and jumps to 15th on the Tour money list.
