Ted Bishop subtweets Ian Poulter, subtly calls him overrated

Rickie Fowler may have proven at The Players that he isn't overrated, but Ian Poulter fell short of squelching the views of his peers that think he is.

In an anonymous poll of PGA Tour players conducted by golf.com, Fowler and Poulter tied for top position in the question of which player is most overrated. Each got 24 percent. Oh, the courage of anonymous players.

After Fowler played the final six holes of regulation in 6 under par and won the three-man playoff on the fourth hole with a birdie to play his last 10 holes in 8 under, former PGA of America president Ted Bishop took to Twitter to make it clear his views on Poulter.

Bishop lost his job as PGA president less than two months before his two-year term was to end because he called Poulter a "little girl" in social media postings in response to criticism the Englishman laid at the feet of 2008 losing Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo. Faldo, who had befriended Bishop, had called Sergio Garcia "useless" the week of his captaincy as the Spaniard was dealing with the fallout from breaking up with Greg Norman's daughter, Morgan Leigh, in the weeks leading into the matches at Valhalla in Kentucky.

Despite apologies and acknowledgments of how tone deaf his comments were, Bishop was ousted from the job and, effectively, from the history of the PGA of America.

For his part, Poulter has enjoyed bantering with Fowler this week on Twitter about the poll results. Poulter has a classy response to Fowler's great finish that led to his win.
