LPGA event not coming to Augusta National anytime soon

LPGA commissioner Mike Whan has made it a point of asking the folks at Augusta National each year about the possibility of hosting the best female players in the world at the home of the Masters. As Whan said on SiriusXM on Monday, he figures it's better to hear no from the Augusta brass than to "tell himself no in the parking lot."

However, Whan will keep hearing no for some time to come. Masters chairman Billy Payne was asked about the possibility of an LPGA event at Augusta National, and he was not keen on the idea.

“I don’t think so,” Payne said. “We have a very short member season at Augusta National. It’s seven months only. The time that we dedicate to the preparation and conduct of the tournament is already extensive. I don’t think that we would ever host another tournament.”

It may be a no today, but a lot of things pre-Payne were also a no at Augusta National and many of those once unthinkable things have happened, including the admission of three female members to the world-famous club.

Keep asking, Mr. Whan.
