Dallas-based Topgolf is hoping its forthcoming location in the Las Vegas desert will make a big splash.
The company broke ground Wednesday on a location on an 8-acre parcel of land behind the Signature towers of the MGM Grand resort. The location, which will open in Spring 2016, will be the 10th under construction around the country. Another 13 locations are already open, with the company expecting to add 30 locations over the next three years.
For those not familiar with Topgolf, the concept is pretty simple: mixing a driving range with the fun of a night at the bar or a club. Topgolf can simply be a place to work on your game. Using its RFID-tagged golf balls, you can play against your friends and other customers at the facility. Or, if you don't want to swing a club, you can just sip on a drink or two and have some food.
This Vegas location with have 105,000 sq. ft. of space, almost double the size of a typical Topgolf location, and will accommodate 2,000 people. On top of its typical three-level structure, the Vegas location will have a fourth level with an unobstructed view of the Strip and amenities including VIP hitting bays, cabanas and multiple swimming pools. Topgolf Vegas will also have a music venue built in for special occasions.
Setting up shop in Vegas doesn't come cheap. This location will cost around $50 million to build compared to the typical $18 million price tag.
