The date and the venue from which 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley will announce his three captain's picks has changed.
McGinley will now wait an extra day to share his selections, doing so from the European Tour's home base at the Wentworth Club in England.
The Irishman will make those picks public on Tues., Sept. 2, allowing for the PGA Tour's Deutsche Bank Championship to end before rounding out the 12-man team that will host the Americans and captain Tom Watson at Gleneagles in Scotland.
Originally, McGinley was set to announce his three picks after the 2014 Italian Open, but the European Tour announced the changes on Wednesday.
“With no actual qualification points counting in the Deutsche Bank Championship, I was initially prepared to make my wild card announcement on the Monday – the day after the final counting event, the 2014 Italian Open,” said McGinley in a release.
“But I have had a rethink and I now want to delay 24 hours as I realize that some potential members of the team might well be playing in Boston that week. Realistically, I think it will have minimal effect, but out of respect for any players involved, I want to allow them to finish that tournament before I call them with news, one way or another.
Watson will announce his three picks the same day, as well allowing for the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs to conclude before shoring up his roster.
