Aberdeen Asset Management has extended its commitment as title sponsor of the Scottish Open through 2017, the European Tour announced Saturday.

In conjunction, the Scottish government has agreed to continue underwriting part of the tournament. The prize fund will increase to 3.25 million GBP in 2015 and '16, then to 3.5 million GBP in '17.

The three-year contract Aberdeen Asset Management originally signed was set to expire after next year's tournament.

While Royal Aberdeen will host the Open Championship precursor in 2014, current host Castle Stuart Golf Links will host the tournament in at least one of the three years covered under the extension.

The Scottish Open will make U.S. broadcast history on Saturday and Sunday, becoming the first regular European Tour event to be broadcast on American network television. NBC will air weekend coverage of the championship.
