The LPGA returns to south central New York with The Corning, featuring $5 million purse

After 18 years, the LPGA Tour is coming back to Corning, New York, with an event that reflects both the dramatic growth of the title sponsor and the tour.

The LPGA Tour announced a new event, The Corning, will start in 2027 and kick back up with a $5 million purse, marking the highest purse on the tour schedule outside of the five major championships and the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.

Corning was presenting sponsor of the original tournament, the Corning Classic, for 31 years, which was last played for a $1.5 million purse and won by Yani Tseng in 2009. The company, which has evolved its business away from glassware and more toward technological parts, celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2026.

The Corning will be played May 27-30, 2027, at Corning Country Club and will be promoted by IMG.

“The return of The Classic brings together the LPGA’s history and its future. As we continue shaping the next chapter of our Tour, we’re building on the qualities that have defined the LPGA for decades—incredible championships, committed partners, passionate communities and unforgettable experiences for our athletes," said LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler.

"I’ve been blown away by the Corning team’s thoughtfulness and commitment to returning this event to the Tour, with players and community at the heart of their plans and ambitions. All the legends I’ve spoken to remember this event so fondly, and we can’t wait to create a new generation of memories together in Corning.”

The return of the LPGA Tour to Corning follows from the recent announcement of the new Nanea Cup, an innovative new tournament that will debut at the ultra-private Nanea Golf Club in March 2027. The event, which has a $4 million purse, will welcome pros and collegiate players to compete at the same time.
