Making the cut at the Masters Tournament is a big deal. Not only does it mean a chance to play the weekend at Augusta National -- and potentially pull off a miracle run up the leaderboard -- but it also means a chance to make more money (presuming you're not an amateur).
Since making the cut is not easy to do at Augusta National Golf Club, stringing together a long career of consecutive cuts made in the first major of the year is an even bigger deal.
In the history of the Masters, one player has made more cuts than any other, and it's not event close.
Who has made the most cuts made in the Masters Tournament?
Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the most cuts made at the Masters. The six-time Masters champion made 37 cuts in his playing career at Augusta National, which is an incredible mark.
The Masters started having a cut in 1957, so the cut mark has been around for 67 years of the tournament's history, which started in 1934.
Second on the cuts-made list is Fred Couples. He has made 31 cuts in his Masters career, including winning the 1992 Masters and being the oldest player to make the cut in Masters history.
Up until 2024, Couples also shared the record for the most consecutive cuts made in the Masters with Gary Player, who is third on the all-time cuts-made list at 30.
Fred Couples made his 23 cuts in a row from 1983-2007, taking the green jacket in 1992 thanks, in part, to a miraculous result on the par-3 12th in the final round. Couples is also the oldest player to make the cut in the Masters, doing so in 2023 at the age of 63 years, 6 months, 5 days.
Gary Player made his 23 consecutive cuts from 1959-1982, winning the tournament three times in that span in 1961, 1974 and 1978 -- the last of which made him, at the time, the oldest Masters champion.
