Collin Morikawa withdrew from this week's 2026 Valero Texas Open on Tuesday, changing the field for this week's PGA Tour event at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.
Morikawa was committed to the field at the tournament deadline, but he pulled out of the event on Tuesday, citing the back injury that forced him out of The Players Championship after one completed hole.
Morikawa, through his agent, said that he came back too soon after the injury. However, that also leaves in doubt Morikawa's status for the Masters Tournament next week. Seemingly, an extra week of rest could help Morikawa get ready for the first major of the year.
There are now 15 top-50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking in the field. Tommy Fleetwood remains the headliner this week, as Brian Harman defends the title that he won a year ago. Unfortunately, Morikawa's absence is a negative for the final tournament on the PGA Tour schedule before the Masters.
Nicolai Hojgaard, Gary Woodland and Daniel Berger have all also withdrawn from this week's event, now assured of Masters invites.
Morikawa is replaced in the tournament field by Frankie Capan III. As one of the pre-tournament betting favorites, Morikawa exiting the tournament will shift the pre-tournament betting odds.
Fleetwood is still the betting favorite at 14-to-1, while Ludvig Aberg is 16-to-1 to win.
