Tiger Woods has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence and damaging property after a rollover accident in a Jupiter Island, Florida, neighborhood on Friday.
The accident happened in a neighborhood, near 281 Beach Road, with a vehicle photographed by WPTV laying on the driver's side. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek shared details of the accident and subsequent arrest during a news conference.
Jupiter Island Police responded to the scene and found a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner and Woods' Land Rover, rolled over on the driver's side.
The pressure-cleaner truck was going northbound and trying to turn into a driveway. The driver looked in his mirror, according to the driver's statement, only to see Woods' vehicle overtaking his at what was described as "high speed," though the exact speed was unclear. The truck driver tried to edge to the side of the road to avoid Woods' vehicle, and Woods swerved to avoid the trailer, clipping it in the process and leading to the rollover.
Woods crawled out the passenger side of the vehicle. The Sheiff said Woods showed signs of impairment, and Martin County Sheriff's Office was asked to help at that point. He faced roadside tests for impairment, which led to the arrest. Woods refused a urine analysis, though he did not show any signs of alcohol impairment in a breathalyzer test. However, Woods was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Woods will be in custody for eight hours, according to Budensiek, as required by law after a DUI arrest. Woods has posted bond and will be released at that time.
There are no injuries to Woods or the truck driver.
Woods recently competed in the second and final match of the TGL Finals on Tuesday night, pitting his Jupiter Links GC team against the eventual champions Los Angeles Golf Club. He also attended the first match of the series on Monday night, helping his team in the competition. Woods looked good for much of the Tuesday match, hitting several impressive shots, indicating afterward that he's been trying to get his oft-injured body ready to potentially play in the Masters in two weeks.
This was Woods' first competitive appearance of the year. He hadn’t competed since the 2024 Open Championship, and he had entered, though not committed to play, the 2026 US Senior Open.
Woods had two surgeries since his last competitive appearance: one in March 2025 to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon and one in October 2025 for a lumbar disc replacement.
In February 2021, Woods was severely injured in a rollover crash outside of Los Angeles, where he suffered a compound fracture that almost led to amputation. Woods had to be removed from the vehicle after the one-car accident and underwent multiple surgeries on his right leg.
Woods also had a single car accident in November 2009 not far from the home he shared with then wife Elin Nordegren, which set off a wave of allegations of extramarital affairs, some of which Woods acknowledged publicly.
