Patrick Reed is done with LIV Golf, and he intends to return to the PGA Tour after serving a one-year suspension that will have him back in time for the FedEx Cup Fall.
The PGA Tour and Reed both announced Reed's intention to return under what seems to be an expanded Returning Member Program, under which Brooks Koepka was welcome back after exiting his LIV Golf contract in December with one year remaining.
Reed will serve a one-year suspension for competing in unauthorized events, backdated to when the 2025 LIV Golf season finished. On Aug. 25, 2026, Reed will be eligible to play again in PGA Tour events, and he'll be able to compete in the FedEx Cup Fall through sponsor exemptions and Monday qualifying. In the meanwhile, he'll continue to play on the DP World Tour, where he won last week's Hero Dubai Desert Classic, with the potential to earn full 2027 PGA Tour status by finishing in the top 10 of the season-ending Race to Dubai points list.
Reed shared the news in a tweet that included his thoughts on why he wants to return to the PGA Tour, saying, "I’m a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine. I am very fortunate for the opportunities that have come my way and grateful for the life we have created. I am moving forward in my career, and I look forward to competing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. I can’t wait to get back out there and revisit some of the best places on earth."
He also seemed grateful for the opportunity to play on LIV Golf and with the 4 Aces team, in addition to the financial windfall from signing with LIV Golf.
"I want to thank everyone involved for helping me make this decision," he said. "Over the last four years, I have learned a lot about myself, about who I am and who I am not, and for that I am forever grateful. To Dustin Johnson, The Aces, and LIV Golf, I want to thank you for the memories we shared and created together."
Last week in Dubai, Reed said he would strongly consider a return to the PGA Tour were it afforded to him, saying it is the "best tour in the world." After winning his first Rolex Series event, Reed shared he was a free agent, having no signed agreement to play LIV Golf in 2026 -- though he said it was likely to get completed.
Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, is competing this week on the DP World Tour in the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Currently ranked 29th in the Official World Golf Ranking off his Dubai win, Reed should have access to all four major championships in 2026.
