The 5 best pairs of golf pants that have been in my closet and should be in yours

One of the great things about golf is that no two rounds are ever the same. So much can change from one round to the next, and that includes the weather conditions.

Some days, you'll play when the air has that fall or spring morning chill. Some days, you'll play when, frankly, it's a bit too cold to be out there. Other days, it's so hot that you can't see straight. And, of course, there are those picture-perfect days.

Since the weather conditions change when you play golf, you should have -- where possible and necessary -- different pieces to wear to be most comfortable on the golf course on any given day. After all, if you feel good, you'll play good. Well, gooder.

For me, that means having several different pairs of pants for golf.

The golf pants that I'm recommending are ones I've owned and worn personally. Not only do I like how they look and perform, but their quality holds up time after time. This isn't the be-all-end-all list -- rather, it's all based on personal experience.

There are definitely pants that I want to try from other brands, but until then, this is my list.

My top 5 pairs of golf pants

Original Penguin Player golf pants

Original Penguin's Player golf pants quickly became some of my favorite pants to wear in almost any set of conditions. The pants, available in five colors, are made from 76 percent Nylon and 24 percent Elastane in a soft, stretchy, yet sturdy Tricot fabrication. There's a little texture to the pants, which have a flat front, four pockets and a ton of stretch. They're lightweight and go great with practically any outfit. They're also available as shorts, which are honestly even better.

Radmor Golf Five-O knit pants

Radmor Golf has such a great lineup of clothes, with an emphasis on more natural-looking and feeling materials. Their Five-O knit golf pants are a complete winner. They're 96 percent organic cotton with 4 percent Elastane, and they stretch like crazy. They basically feel like a pair of pajamas. They're soft, feel great, look great and hold up in colder weather. The waist stretches just enough but nothing crazy. The five-pocket design is my favorite. These are available as shorts, too, which are also incredible.

Chubbies Everywear pants

When most people hear Chubbies, they think short shorts. And their shorts -- short or not -- are awesome for golf. However, their Everywear pants are a great option compared to traditional pants. For one, they're pants without a specific waist size, so there's a little more room there in the waist, and there's an elastic waistband and internal drawstring to dial in the fit. The 90 percent Polyester and 10 percent Spandex mix fabric is water- and wrinkle-resistant, and the pants taper just enough to have a modern-looking fit. They're lightweight, with plenty of stretch for golf.

Puma 101 5-pocket golf pants

Puma is such an underrated brand for technical golf pieces. They push the envelope with colors and styles, yes, but they make solid, easy-to-enjoy clothes for all golfers. The 101 5-pocket golf pants follow from their Cloudspun fabrics that are just great. The pants are 100 percent polyester, have a Herringbone-style stretch waist and Hydramesh pockets that will dry quickly in any conditions. The fit is great, and they're available in seven colorways.

Izod mid-weight Comfort Stretch knit denim 5-pocket pant

Real ball knowers are aware that Costco has great finds for golfers looking for complementary pieces that work well with almost any set of colors. These Izod jeans (although they're not really jeans) do just that. They're made from a fabric (61 percent cotton, 30 percent Polyester, 8 percent Viscose, 1 percent Spandex) that has enough weight for colder days on the course while working all the way into the late Spring or late Fall. I bought these at Costco a few years ago in like four colors. They're great on the course, as well as in a casual or professional setting.
